I love smoothies, but I'm starting to tire of the usual
banana/blueberry/strawberry/blackberry/raspberry/kiwi ingredients.
That's why I'm interested in adding acai and its unusual flavor to the
mix.

I recently heard about the acai berry and its nutritional benefits.  At
first I was skeptical of the berry because Oprah and Hollywood
celebrities are claimed to be a strong believers in it.  Oprah promoted
that fraud Robert Kiyosaki of "Rich Dad Poor Dad" fame so I find her
susceptible to hypes, while it should go without saying that Hollywood
celebrities are the epitome of naive.  I looked into it anyway and
found that acai berries really are packed with nutrients and even
protein and essential fatty acids.

I'm still positive the berry's nutritional benefits are drastically
overstated, but they at least don't appear harmful.  At the very worst
it seems like I'd just be paying a hype premium for chocolate-flavored
raspberries.  Can anyone tell me where I could buy bags of frozen acai
berries?  I refuse to buy organic products and most of the places I've
seen foods containing acai in the real world and online only sell
organic.   I believe in couple aspects of the organic food movement,
but overall Organic is the snakeoil of our day.  Even its name is a
lie!  Ugh...Irrelevant as it is, it's just one of those things that
gets under my skin.

Well, there's a note of caution for the processed version when anyone finds
some.

It takes several more independent cautions for credibility nowadays.  But,
here's just one.

Thanks for the info, that's basically why I like to stick with frozen
versions of the whole fruit.  Cutting a fruit exposes the enzymes and
chemicals to the air which immediately starts to break them down, so
that's why I want to avoid the frozen mush versions.  The heat from the
pasteurization process can also break them down, but I don't think
berries are stored that way too often (veggies maybe but not fruits).
>From what I've read freezing fruits is the best way nutritionally to
store fruits for a long time, and the main negative is that the
freezing process destroys cell walls making them mushy when thalled.
Since they're going into a smoothie and consumed within minutes the
negatives don't really apply.
