UPDATE 2-US approves weight-loss drug for obese dogs
By Susan Heavey
WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (Reuters) - U.S. health officials have approved the
first prescription weight-loss drug aimed at treating Americans'
increasingly plump pooches, the Food and Drug Administration said on
Friday.
The drug, Pfizer Inc'.s (PFE.N: Quote, Profile , Research) Slentrol,
helps decrease appetite and fat absorption to help the roughly 5
percent of U.S. dogs that are obese lose weight, the FDA said. Another
20 percent to 30 percent are overweight, it added.

"This is a welcome addition to animal therapies because dog obesity
appears to be increasing," said Stephen Sundlof, head of FDA's Center
for Veterinary Medicine.
Also known as dirlotapide, the once-daily liquid can also cause various
side effects, including vomiting, loose stools, diarrhea and lethargy.
Americans own 65 million dogs, according to the Humane Society of the
United States, and about 39 percent of U.S. households have at least
one.
Like their human counterparts, overweight dogs are also at risk for
developing diabetes, heart trouble, joint problems and other
complications, the FDA said.

You get obesity which is 100% caused by diet. So you treat it with
.....wait for it.... pills.
Makes sense only to those who profit from making or prescribing pills.

These dogs' problems are related to more than just diet. Like many
humans now days, there's also complications stemming from a lack of
exercise.

Gotta love it. Just pay your money, get a pill, and everything will be
good again.

And the vitamin pill peddlers aren't far behind.

Well, if someone had a disease which caused a high fever, what would
be best? Lower the fever, or put them in an oven like the disease
seems to be heading towards?

Obesity is not caused by diet alone. Well, yes, a diet more energy
rich than the expenditure, but, if one has asthma and can't exercise,
then a pill to alleviate the asthma to allow exercise would be a
reasonable counter to the obesity.

Says someone who apparently thinks that calories are somehow a myth?
