Oddly enough, I was able to successfully lose more than 20 lbs and keep
it off without overly strong willpower and with a pretty loose diet
plan. It's called eating real food and avoiding highly manufactured
fake foods that tend to be high in refined carbs and refined fats.

Yeah, but you still need the willpower to eat the real foods. Preparing
healthy real meals from scratch is time-consuming and requires some
amount of dedication to follow through.

How much easier is it after a hard day's of work to grab something fast
and quick of the supermarket shelves (and usually unhealthy)?
