[acid/alkaline] Is fruit bad for you?

After following a raw foods diet following the acid/alkaline principles
of people like David Wolfe, Robert Young and Alex Guerrero, I lost 90
pounds within a year. I'm now 15 pounds from my ideal weight. Feels
great! My energy level has tripled. I'm never ill. All my animal and
plant allergies has disappeared. So has my asthma.

The authors above says that the natural sugar in fruit becomes acidic
when broken down. They recommend non-sweet fruits like tomatoes,
avocados and grape fruit.

What's your experiences? Anyone have documentation for or against this
theory?

Hope to get a great debate out of this.

Regards,
Tony

For Documentation against, read the following 18 web

Tony:

You can find actual scientific evidence at www.pubmed.com.  You just
search by using keywords.  I think you will be surprised by how little
there is to support the claims of authors such as these, as well as
others, such as that "blood type diet" character from a few years ago.

However, regardless of the studies you see, there is still the need to
place them into an overall framework, and that is what I tried to do on
my website:

http://groups.msn.com/TheScientificDebateForum-/

This is my interpretation of the evidence.  I am an independent scholar
who is not making any money, directly or indirectly, by providing this
information free of charge to the public.  If you go there, you will
see that there are a huge number of citations and quotations from
scientists and the scientific literature.

As to your diet specifically: I don't know exactly what you are eating,
but it seems likely that you have removed foods that act as oxidizing
agents in your body, and this would explain your apparent success.

In general fruits are alkalizing as they contain alkalizing minerals like
potassium. Fruits are also high in many powerful antioxidant phytochemicals
not present in vegetables, which is a good reason to eat fruits (and
berries) in addition to vegetables. In countless studies the ingestion of
fruits is associated with a lower insidence of diseases and mortality.

In addition, the guys promoting the pH Balance diet are obsessed with the
purification aspect of the diet and overlooking the building aspect (i.e.
proteins). There is also a lot of outdated information about vitamins (B12)
and other things in the books by Young.

The Ph Balance diet is closely tied to the use of expensive supplements
which are sold by dubious triangle marketing. This gives the drive to
promote the diet and the supplements.

But, I have these neat things called kidneys. Whatever acid/base imbalances
are created by whatever I eat, they will take care of them. I just pee out
the excess acid or base.

True. And my kidneys do their work free, except for the energy they use.

The skeleton is a buffer in the delicate acid-alkaline balance. If the diet
is too acid forming calcium is leached from the bones to balance the
metabolic acidicity. That is the problem.

It is not enough that kidneys do their work.
