Is it just me or are most of the giant fruits at US grocery stores
genetically engineered? The size of grapes , strawberries, etc is
ridiculous. What is the verdict on the safety of such foods?

Why would they be less safe? Epidemiological data hasn't shown any
negative effects and to my best knowledge no individual cases have been
reported (with the exception that when one is allergic to a certain
protein and this is put into another plant (gmo), the person remains
allergic to that protein).

Sometimes genetically engineered food is safer, eg. wheat resistant to
several toxin producing fungi (aflatoxins produced by Aspergillus
flavus).

But (major but), one should always take caution when dealing with food
quality and perhaps genetically engineering isn't always the best
solution.
