Tea & Gout

I posted this in the Arhtritis group, but did not get any reponses, so I'll
try here:

I recently had my first attack of what they think is Gout. It took a while
to get diagnosed since the symptoms were a little atypical. The tibia turned
red above the ankle and the lower leg and ankle swelled, with a hard lump
above the ankle (Tophus?). Some anti-inflammatories reduced the redness,
pain and swelling in the leg, but the ankle, heel and top of the foot are
still swollen. I've read that this typically affects one joint (Toe) the
first time and clears up in a few days, but I've had this for over a week
and it's affected the ankle, heel, tibia (not a joint I know), ball of the
foot and the joints behind the toes. It's better in the morning and worse at
night. I was on a diuretic until this happened.

Now for the questions. I've been doing a little reading about the good
foods, bad foods and home remedies. The one food people seem to disagree on
is Tea. I see Cherries recommended for the Flavonoids, but Tea not
recommended. I also see Lemon juice recommended for it's ability to reduce
Uric acid. So you would think Tea would be a good thing, it's full of
Flavonoids and Tannic acid. Is it the caffeine or is Tea OK?

If you get the arachidonic acid out of yoru body, you will attentuate
the inflammation around ten fold, possibly more.  Just avoid any major
source of unsaturated fatty acids.  Use coconut oil or butter.  Don't
cook dairy, boil eggs and meat, avoid baked goods made with any fat,
any diary, and eggs.  I "grease" my bread pans with coconut oil, but
otherwise no fat source is used.  Eat plenty of berries and dark
chocolate.  I drink some white tea, but I also use coffee in some
recipes.  If you do this, and I mean do it exactly as I say, with no
"cheating," you should see results in about 2 weeks.  It takes around
two years to get all the arachidonic acid out of you, so the benefits
just keep coming for a long time.  Cut down on your meat consumption if
you eat a lot of it, but eat more gelatin - you can make dishes with
it, like "jello" type things, or you can take it as a supplement.

Well there it is!

It takes 2 years for a chronic lack of PUFAs in your diet to noticibly
impair mental functioning.

I don't use tea very often because I don't like to use sugar much and can't
stand it without sugar.  But I get something like gout when I eat liver.  Very
dependable.  Happens almost every time.
