Lactobacillus Reuteri vs. Common Colds

Hmm.. not really a well controlled study.
What the placebo was is not even mentioned in the full text article (!),
neither did they control for intake of pre- and probiotics in the ordinary
diets of their study group and, finally, one of the authors works for a
company producing the featured probiotic organism.

 You are correct on all the points that you raised and I had them in
mind when I posted it.  However, it's carefully mentioned that
Lactobacillus reuteri "may" help so I posted it as FWIW (I neither know
the company nor do I have a financial interest in it).
One thing I would say though- if this bacterium is sensitive to low pH
and lacks the protection necessary to insure that it would reach the
intestines in the necessary numbers (usually in the thousands) then it
is probably a waste of money and hope;-)
