I suffer from Anxiety/Panic disorder and I've noticed it gets worse with sugar
consumption. I've read a lot on this recently and now I want to cut out
almost all the sugar in my diet. I've also just started jogging but my weight
is so down from lack of sugar and taking up jogging that I can start to see my
rib cage and my pants are falling down. How do I keep my weight up in this
situation? Also, what are some good snacks to have (I mean treats, not fruits
and vegetables) that don't have sugar? Or is there such a thing?
Thanks,
Jeff

Geez. Just eat more healthy starches!
Whole grains and root veggies.
IMHO fruit IS a treat!
Try granola bars.
My anxiety attacks pretty well went away when I gave up coffee......
HTH?
Cheers!

Are you practicing low-fat lifestyle? If yes, STOP IT! ;-)
As a first step in trying to deal with Anxiety/Panic disorders, I'd
gorge on fish and fish oil with plenty of EPA/DHA. I'd also take some
5-HTP. And don't forget a good daily multivitamin.

A balanced diet is the only way - period. The cells in your body are
constantly engaged in the process of "cellular respiration" (read up on the
Krebs cycle). Essential to that is glucose, which carbohydrates and
ultimately all food can be turned into. Learn the difference between
complex carbohydrates and simple sugar, and lean toward the latter when
choosing a sane amount of carbohydrate for your daily consumption. If you
can see your rib cage, either your daily caloric intake is too low, or you
are burning too much of it up.
A good snack is anything you are willing to eat that keeps you going. If
you want half a salmon steak with basil sauce, that is a great snack, but a
little pricey on a daily basis.
What is your height and weight?

Hi Jeff,
there certainly are a number of snack/treats you can have
withouth sugar. Jellybelly do a range of sugar free jellybeans which I
pick up from eBay. Also if Cadbury chocolates are available in your
area you there is a 'lite' chocolate they do which is low fat and no
sugar but surprisingly tasty. There is also the Atkins stuff but I find
it expensive. I've also had reasonable success from the recipies here:

Hope this is of some help. The jury is still out about low carb, but I
have a sweet tooth and the sugary stuff its definitely not good for
you. Watch out for the "low fat" products out there as they can often
contain a lot of sugars to make up for the loss of flavour in the fat
reducing process.
