Has anyone come across anything that ameliorates or prevents delayed
onset muscle soreness?

Either working out more often, or not at all.
Other than that, NSAIDS

Do you mean nutritionally?  Starting as soon as possible after your
exercise, like within 15 minutes, primarily carbs but don't forget some
fats and proteins, and of course fluids. IT will help but not eliminate.
Besides you are so being so vague, it's hard to answer with anything but
broad SWAGs.

DOMs is usually when you have pushed yourself some degree further than
your body has ever been and is telling you, thanks, but no thanks.
Typical is training for a marathon with a long runs of 20 miles and then
race 26.1. Day plus one you a little stiff. Day plus two typical DOM's -
feel like a rusty gate.

From an exercise prospective  "better" training ,meaning training
smarter before the day, such that it is not such a shock to your body
D-day.

As some one else suggested, NSAIDS, but try not to continue training
while the soreness is being masked.

You might want to post this to the specific group that caused the DOMs
or google delayed onset for your activity.  On s.m.n you're going to get
all the nutritional extremist crackpots that don't know jack sh.t about
exercise(pass me the remote I need to burn some calories), much less
nutrition, do ad nausium battle.  Then why read here - nutritional
humor.  You would need to read here for months to figure out the
reasonable people with an unbiased answer.

Vitamin E. Need to start taking it, say 400, about a week before the
exercise. I just remember reading this many, many years ago.

What about massage?

I take a long hot shower after the exercise and before resting.  It works for
me.

Stretching really well after lifting along with proper breathing helps
me a lot. ;-)

What medications are you taking?  For any illness, condition.

The statins and some other cholesterol lowering drugs can cause delayed
muscle symptoms.

Some are: atorvastatin (Lipitor), simvastatin (Zocor), rosvastatin
(Crestor), lovastatin (Mevacor)...Cholestyramine (Questran)...

Uh, DOMS is usually associated with weight lifting......

Duh.

Less acidic body pH levels.
Warming up, stretching or cools downs are not necessary if your body is not as
acidic.

I've heard Dr. Steven Sinatra talk about using Ribose for DOMS. Another
thing to consider would be branched chain amino acids.

Try searching for "myalgia".

And look into lactic acid metabolism, while you're at it.
(I haven't done it myself, but that's what I'd do.)
