Doctor's Best is making L-Tryptophan (NOT 5-HTP) and marketing it to humans
(not pets).

Anyone know how they can do that? I thought it was banned by the FDA because
of fears of Eosinophilia-Myalgia Syndrome.

Did the FDA lift their ban?

Doubt that. The reaction btw. free amino acid and HOCl from activated
neutrophils (myelo peroxidase) or from eosinophil peroxidase is rather
nasty.

Eating free amino acids increase concentration of free amino acids of
that kind, and if you are ill etc, the carboxylic group becomes
destabilized when the chlorine attacks the amino acid and it is
rearranged into formaldehyde. In far bigger amount than you ever will
be able to make from decomposition of aspartam (on the other side,
phenylalanine and aspartate also do the same, so most possibly, the
Ch3-group btw. phenylalanine and aspartic acid is most possibly not
responsible for formaldehyde formation, but the amino acids after HOCl
attack.

Maybe it is not free-form L-Trytophan and bonded to another amino so it
isn't bioavailable.

I have tried the pet Trytophan supplements and I can tell you this. There is
absolutely no free-form trytophan in it. It is a complete rip-off, a scam
and a waste of money. I have taken trytophan and there is none in it.

Call them at The Store
    (800)456-9384

and ask if their Trytophan is free form isolated amino acid.

Maybe something has openned up in the law lately. This would be nice now
Prozac has had it's first 25 years on the market without competition.

Order a bottle and try them for a $85 risk. You will know by taking 2000mg
within 30 minutes if it is the real stuff. Many would like to know and they
will have a huge market if it is good stuff.

Yes, apparently the ban was lifted in 2001. Not sure why there has not been
more available until now - but maybe it has something to do with their still
being an import ban, if I read it right.
