Freezing does not disinfect. It may kill some bacteria, but certainly not
all of them. Soap remains the best general purpose disinfectant. Of course,
if your water is not aseptic, your efforts are moot.

It also depends on what you mean when you say water bottles. If they're
HDPE, you're probably OK, but other materials are not intended for reuse and
should be recycled instead.

they are pop bottles. the only reason i ask is that i feel sick and it
does not feel like the flu. i guess i could buy water bottles designed
for reuse. i would have to get special brush to wash insides. damn
this will be a lot of work.

freezing merely puts things into suspended status.

the little buggers will reactivate when thawed.

Is this a statement, question, or moment of mental weakness?

Microwaving is NOT fine as it causes plastic to leach into the water.

Just thought that you might want to know.

Leach what?

Plastic monomers such as bisphenol-A, in the case of polycarbonates, for
example. Or polyol plasticizers in other cases. Phthalates, in yet other
cases. There are precious few plastics which are safe in the microwave, and
little information available to determine just which one you have in front
of you.

I was actually asking the poster who made the sweeping, inaccurate
statement, thanks. It sounded like he was saying that the polymer per
se leached into the water. I was aware that some plastics were risky
for microwave use. It has been well publicised here. The most
dangerous is the leaching of vinyI chloride monomer from PVC cling
film and meat wrappers, but they were warned about (and withdrawn from
sale here) years ago. I was going to ask him about the HDPE
microwave-safe plastic utensils. There are many for sale here.
Not in North America yet?

Perhaps, if you were to focus?

You seem to be confused as to just who the idiot is here?

You have my condolences, 'the Man' don't play that way.

Just remember, oh lowly wonder, that it was moi and not you who first
introduced this topic on this thread.

Just my opinion, but I am right as usual. :)

Let me not stand in the way of your interaction with Herr Gohde. He was Twit
of the Month, and Twit of the Year, if memory serves me.

Let me recall then Larry 'the Mover':  The only thing you ever moved
was a lot of excess weight!

Ha, ... Hah, Ha!

The fact still remains that moi was the first person on this thread to
set the facts straight.  I let the little people write the unimportant
details.

Just thought that you might want to know. :)

You mean the incorrect generalisation about the commonly known dangers
of plastics in microwaves? Are you up yourself just tonight, or are
you constantly that way? Don't bother to answer, I've been warned
about you and I'm intending to ignore you from now on.

I suggest you look up the definitions for:

delusional
pathological liar
living in one's own private world

Next try looking into the mirror once in a while.

In the real world, you would be defined as a person who cannot cope
with everyday life or reality.

Just thought that you might want to know that I think that you are
nothing but an academic A-hole.  :)

Cheers ...

John, if you had simply taken my advice years ago and went for that
lobotomy things would have been fine here. You have the gaul to call
someone else an A-hole? Isn't *that* the kettle calling the pot black!

:o)

Regards.

OK, thanks for the tip. Thought he might be something like that.

What's wrong with bleach? Oxidising is probably the best way to
denature protein. Try hydrogen peroxide. Freezing does nothing.

Hydrogen peroxide is a good solution to your problem (buy it in any
drugstore - preferably when on sale- usually for 1/2 price;-).
Another option: consider purchasing a water ozonator for your kitchen
(google it and you will find plenty of info on the advantages of
ozonation).

Boil them for ten  minutes.  That will sterilize them and also get rid of the
detergent left on them after you wash them.
