Portion control most effective in weight loss, study shows

Portion control carried to an extreme is called starvation.

So how is it that a teenage boy can eat more than his weight in food
in a month and not gain weight?  Yet if a 45 year old man tries that,
he will turn into a blimp.  When I was between the ages of 16 and 25,
I could not gain weight no matter how hard I tried.

I think it's called metabolic rate.

Do you have any suggestions on how to keep the metabolic rate
functioning more efficiently as we age?  Rather than submit to a
controlled starvation (portion control) and subsequent loss of energy?

BMR - Basic Metabolic Rate (at rest when you sleeping)

GT the answer is exercise
#1
the goal is to increase your VO2 level (ability to burn oxygen)
you burn more oxygen you increase your BMR, be careful you will get more
hungry, be selective of which food you eat
HOW? you say, measure a 4 miles or 6 km distance, walk it everyday, a
little faster each time if you can, bring under or as close to ONE hour

#2 work out your biggest muscle, thigh, butt, peck, (squats and push
ups)abs too they will massage everything in the mid section so they work
better.
bigger muscle use more fuel - that increase your BMR
