A friend of mine recently had her cholesterol tested for the first
time, and found the following --
Total: 323
HDL: 85
LDL (calculated) : 226
Triglycerides: 59
(all other numbers pretty much normal)
She is 32 years old, and is not overweight. I asked her about her
diet and she said she eats almost nothing but bread and sweets.
(She has stopped this now, because lately it has been causing
headaches.) I have noticed she eats a not-insignificant amount of
fast food, particularly french fries. She used to exercise daily
by walking on a treadmill, but in the past year or so she hasn't
been doing this much.
IMO, her ratios don't look horrible. I think if she goes back to
exercising, avoids the trans-fats, and stops giving herself
insulin spikes, she should improve. Does anyone have any other
suggestions? I suspect her high cholesterol levels are
caused by something genetic.
Her doctor is going to put her on cholesterol medication if
something doesn't change, and we'd really like to avoid that.
Thanks.

Once upon a time, our fellow Laurel Amberdine
rambled on about "Cholesterol Level."
Our champion De-Medicalizing in sci.med.nutrition retorts, thusly ...
