Can I pass a cold to my wife without
catching it myself via routine
interaction (non-contact) with my
co-workers at the office who have
colds? I think not; my wife thinks
otherwise.

Related Web sites I have found so
far have no information on anything
beyond first-order contagion.

Colds are passed on fomites (nonliving materials),  like lunch boxes and
brief cases.

In addition, if you recently had the cold, you might have enough immunity to
beat back the cold, while enough virus particles might be made in your nose
for your wife to get sick.
