Many years ago a wonderful person by the name of Jerry Lewis started
an organization called the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation. He has
worked long and hard to continue the fight against this horrendous
disease that can strike anyone of us or a loved one at any time. I
have just learned that he has never been presented with the
Presidential Medal of Freedom and what's more there has to be a
petition signed by just 500 people to nominate him, and while it
should already be at 500 it still is lacking by about 116 signatures.
How many times do we see awards going to the deceased families? Many
of us thinking that it was too bad that the person getting the award
wasn't alive to see all the hooplah and festivities surrounding the
great honor they are being given for their accomplishment. This is a
chance for all of us who ever watched a Jerry Lewis movie or seen a
clip of Dean & Jerry doing their standup act and laughed or cried at
the thought of the telethon reaching another milestone in it's
unending search for a cure. It is a chance to let this incredible
person know from our hearts that what he has done to amuse us,
entertain us, & educate us does matter. Let him know that when he is
still alive and can fully understand that he matters to all of us.
Please sign the petition at the petitionsite.com/takeaction/764295562
and let your family and friends know what we are trying to achieve. We
are so close to giving this deserving man this most respected and
deserving Medal of Honor. Thank-you

Before you send in the petition, please get your facts strait:  MDA was
founded in 1950 and awarded its first research grant to Dr. Ade Milhorat, a
pioneer of modern muscular dystrophy research.

I am not saying that he hasn't do wonders for those with ALS, muscular
dystrophy and other diseases, but I hope the petition is accurate.

Thank-you Jeff for correcting me on who it was who started the MDA
Organization.  I certainly do not want to take any credit away from
the originator.

I believe that Jerry Lewis has worked very hard also since 1950 and
should be awarded for that.  As I am sure Dr. Milhorat created
awareness to this horrendous disease in the beginning, I am also sure
that Mr. Lewis has continued to keep it in the forefront to all of us
for so many years.  By using his celebrity he has continued to keep
the flame burning and the research money coming in without expecting
anything (but hopefully a cure) in return.  I am not extremely
knowledgeable about the history of MDA but I do know that if it
weren't for the MDA, and watching the telethon each year, my family
would not have known where to turn when my aunt needed it's help.
Even though I did not create this petition I do believe in it and am
bringing it to people's attention only.  Everyone has a right to chose
whether or not to sign it.

Thank-you again for the correction and I appreciate your input.
