Birth Control Pill Question

My girlfriend is on Alesse/Aviane(low dose estrogen/progestin
pill). When she stops after 21 days, she almost never gets
a period after 7 days - sometimes it takes 8-9 days, sometimes
it takes even longer. As per her, it's been like this even with
another pill(Femilon).

What's the reason for this? Can this be a problem?
Also, what's the right thing to do in this case?
Should should she start immediatelly on the 8th day
or wait till it the bleeding starts?

She should ask her doctor.

Ask her doctor or pharmacist.

Consider switching to an I.U.D also.

IUDs are not a very good method for women who may wish to have children
at some time in the future.  They are associated with a substantial risk of
asymptomatic fallopian tube infections by normal vaginal flora which can
cause infertility.

I agree.  Also, until you straighten out the problem with the Pill,
use another method of birth control.  She may not be protected against
pregnancy.

She has an appointment with the gynaec
after a month - but I am curious about this
& hence the question. Couldn't find anything
relevant online.

Thanks for the clarification.

I am glad she is going to see the doctor. And it is certainly an interesting
question.

I am a bit surprised that the answer is not more readily available on the
net.

I am curious now, too.
