6 years ago I had spinal fusion surgery to fix scoliosis. I had 2 rods
installed along with 8 screws and random wires. It was a 9 hour
surgery and the worst day of my life. I was confined to a bed for 8
days before I could even sit up. Its been 6 years and I've been ok
ever since.
Until tonight.
I got drunk with friends and playfully tried to take one down. I was
drunker than he was, and he shoved me and I fell right onto my butt and
slammed up against my door. So not only did I jolt my spine by falling
directly onto my butt, but I slammed my back into the door, thus
twisting myself, which I am unable to do.
It was instant pain. Enough so that it pretty much sobered me up. The
pain subsided some, but I still have some pain in my lower spine. Im
afraid I may have broken one of the rods and seriously injured myself.
I have honestly never experienced pain in my spine like this before,
since the surgery I experienced. I am really worried right now. I'm a
big guy, 6'4'' 270lbs, so I obviously fell hard. If anyone can offer
any insight as to what I'm going through right now, and if it'll
subside, I'd be incredibly grateful. I'm really worried right now. I
havent experienced pain like this in a long, long time. I have full
motor functions, obviously, otherwise I wouldnt be typing this nor
sitting in a chair, but yeah, I'm in pain. Hopefully its just a jolt
to the spine which hasnt been jolted in a long, long time, and thats
why the pain exists. But yeah, any help will do. If I wake up with
pain in the morning or the next day, then I'll really be worried.

I think that "anyone" is your primary care doctor.

It sounds like your pain is going away. Until I read your last paragraph
and realized that you're getting better (I think - I am inferring things), I
was going to suggest you talk to your neurosurgeon or orthopedic surgeon.
I think you should see your primary care doctor. He or she can check your
back and refer you to a surgeon if needed. I would call the office first
thing in the morning.
While you are there, you should also discuss losing weight (maybe a 1 pound
a week until the summer of 2008 - a total of around 70 lbs) and getting
proper exercise. You'll feel much better, you're back will have less to
carry around, and chances are that you will have more New Year's Eves to get
drunk on.
