Hello,
A family member has some varicose veins in her right leg. She bumped
her lower right leg pretty hard against an object and bruised
her skin. The cut is now a bit red but dried up.
Now, near the cut there is some swelling around more veins.
The swelling is still there after 3 days.
She says the area that is swollen is sensitive.
Anything that she can do to decrease the swelling?
She applied ice the day it was swollen, but not any more.
Thanks!

I am not a doctor. You may try Hydrocortisone creame or ointment.
It will probably take a couple of weeks for the healing process
to be complete.

Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation is the general rule for swelling after
injury.

Yes, and please forego the hydrocortisone cream.

Thanks. Now, is there a way to tell when a small swelling is
dangerous? I posted in another forum, and there everyone is saying
it might be dangerous or a blood clot. But we don't want to get
paranoid.
She does have varicose veins, but is in general good health.
And the bump near the bruise is quite small, but it has a red streak.
THANKS!
