The wife has been having multiple unrelated
health problems for a few months now.
First sinusitis, then ankle sprain, then a shoulder
sprain & finally dental surgery recently. So he has spent
a lot of time with the doctors.

After the dental surgery she took a lot of antibiotics.
Amoxycillin(250mg) - Cloxacillin(250mg) - 10 tablets
Metronidazole(450mg) - 4 tablets
Tinidazole(600mg) - Ciprofloxacin(500mg ) - 6 tablets

Now she has problems in the mouth for the last 3-4 days.
She says her tongue feels heavy & she has some coating on
her tongue. And she has had pain in the mouth also. She
has some throat pain also.

First we thought that it was related to the tooth (i.e. the
tooth pain not subsiding after the surgery) - so we went
back to the dentist. But the dentist says that the wound
has healed fully.

Now my wife refuses to go to any more doctors - she says
she is sick of going to the doctors & won't go for sometime.

Yesterday, she had a homemade yogurt based drink & she
felt some relief in the mouth. This made me wonder if
this had something to do with yeast - because a few years
back after a D & C surgery followed by antibiotics, she
had vaginal yeast infection & that time, having yogurt gave
her great relief. Finally at that time, the doctor gave her a
flucanazole (Diflucan) tablet & it cured her fully.

Since she refuses to go to the doc to get diagnosed, I tried
giving her L.acidophilus tablets & powders you get at the
health store & that gives her some amount of relief.

I hope to convince her to visit the doctor within the next few
days, but what else can I do at home in the meantime
assuming this some sort of oral yeast infection or thrush?

Is there any other diagnosis also?

She needs to be put on an antifungal medication.

That's good advice, but she refuses to go to the
doctor as I have written below.

The mouth/lips burning is mostly gone now.
The discomfort in the mouth also reduced.
What's left is ear ache & some jaw pain.
She still refuses to see the doctor - I don't
blame here - she has had tons of doctors
visits in the last few months.

Planning to give her Benadryl syrup for the
throat - I am assuming it will not harm even
if it doesn't help.

Use gentian violet, it is sold in drugstores, you might have to look
around. Her mouth will turn purple for a few days, but it will take
care of the yeast.
