Hello~ My ex husband has had hep C for 5 years currently in State Prison in
CA. He has asked me to find some information on this topic.
HELP?Currently he has been told due to his history of depression and
agression they will not treat him. He has asked for a liver biopsy and they
will not perform one. The Dr. has told him that he could live 6months or 30
years. I would greatly appreciate any information that could help him
understand what he is dealing with and his options if any. From what I have
read on a few posts on this site it is my understanding that gnome 1A is the
most difficult to treat with only about 28% success rate (got that figure
from a journal).
Would you also be kind enough to help me understand what is going to
happen to him as this process continues. Is there anything he can do? Thank
you all for your help looking forward to sending him any and all info I can.
I have been to a few web sites and I had not noticed anything about gnome
types until he came to me with this information. He also told me his viral
load is 14million. The only viral loads I am aware of is with HIV patients. I
am a Respiratory Therapist and have a small clue about other medical issues.
Once more thanks for all of your help.

There's plenty of information out there on HCV genotype and viral load.
Some genotypes are more suceptible to interferon antivirals then
others. Some studies have added histamine for a better response rate.
The progression is variable and pretty much unpredictable as far as I
know.
