Question About Pill Splitting

Is there any reason why one could not split the 40 mg Zocor or Lipitor
tablet to create 20 mg doses to save money on prescription?

I know that some pills can be split by pill splitters and others
cannot. Is there any rule of thumb about which can and which cannot?

Check with a local pharmacist.   I checked with one of mine and they said no
problem with Zocor - but it would be nice to hear it from some more sources

My provider sent the wrong size and I figured splitting them was the path of
least resistance.   The little device I got for about seven dollars seems to do
a fairly precise job on the heart-shaped Zocor 40's.
