I developed cellulitis in my arm about 2 months ago after a tattoo.
It actually got quite bad before I went to the doctor, lots of lumps and
swelling.
I have had course after course of antibiotics, usually lasting 10 days at a
time, and as soon as I stop taking them, about 1-2 days afterwards, the
lumps start to come back. I have been on 4 different antibiotics, some seem
to clear it up completely while on them, others settle it down with only
the odd lump every couple of days.
My last course was 10 days of Cephalexin, it seemed to clear it up
completely, lump free for about 4 days, but alais today after finishing
them yesterday an itchy lump is starting to form again.
I am starting to get worried now :/. Advice please.

Have you taken two antibiotics concurrently? If not, you may need to do so.
This can be difficult to cure.

Seems like the Cephalexin was working but needed to be taken longer. Your
doctor needs to get you sorted out.

This is *not* advice; this is only an anecdote from someone who gets
pretty bad cellulitis pretty often (I'm nephrotic and somewhat immune
compromised): I am usually given 450mg Clindamycin (Cleocin) 3 times a
day for 10 to 14 days. Sometimes the lesions require care by the Wound
Care Center even after antibiotic therapy. It is possible that the
infection is gone; generally speaking, cellulitis lesions look pretty
horrible for about a month, but if the wound is no longer hot, the red
area surrounding the lesion is not spreading (and is fading in color,
but this can take a week after antibiotic therapy is stopped), there is
less pain and tenderness, and the swelling is going down, it may be
healing. Cellulitis, in my experience, does tend to itch like a son of a
bitch once it starts to heal, but this is just my experience. Only a
doctor who can examine you and your lesion can tell you if you need
further antibiotic therapy and/or wound care.

Since cellulitis is such a serious infection, if you're not sure, the
best thing to do is to have your doctor recheck the the wound, and be
sure to ask about how to dress the wound if you have *any* questions.
(And *this* is the only advice you should take from anonymous usenet
yahoos like me - see your doctor!)

Gook luck!
