What is that white stuff that a CO2 laser makes on your skin?

You know those infomercials for CO2 laser peels? I've been wondering
something? What IS that white stuff that appears on the skin when the
laser passes over? I was expecting it to look like a moderate burn, but
white bumps? Any one got an answer? Thanks!!!!!

I haven't seen the infomercial, but it's probably ash from the vaporized
skin layer.
