Hi,

For years I have been on high dose prednisone (Unknown autoimune
disorder). I am now at over 45mg a day and my skin injuries are getting
VERY slow to heal

Any suggestions??

When is the last time you had your blood sugar checked?  Steroids
frequently cause hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), which can cause slow
healing and predispose you to wound infection.  Are you having other
signs of high blood sugar like excessive thirst or frequent urination?
Either way, you need to tell your doc so he can rule out high blood
sugar, because it damages your heart, eyes, and kidneys, among other
things.

The webMD link above recommends reporting slow healing to your doc when
on prednisone.

There's a list here
http://www.clevelandclinic.org/health/health-info/docs/0200/0217.asp?index=4857

Some seem to do well on methotrexate weekly injections.
You're welcome on the lupus newsgroup, if you wish.

Bill, I take that back. The others can't help with head swelling issues.
It's a support newsgroup.
Best to stay here, until somebody "medic" type replies.
What's swelling?  The skin covering the skull?
The skull? Doesn't seem possible...
The brain (inside the skull)?
What's your age and when did this start?
And it swells by how much?

Not under skull. tends to be in various places of rear hemisphere. Looks
very much like I was hit by a fastball or even a baseball bat.

Swells outward by as much as 3/4 inch.

I do not know what is going on under skull but wonder because during
those times I tend to also get confused. However, that could just be the
high fevers.

I REALLY think it would be usefull to have CT scan, etc done during the
acute phase, but so far... by the time any doctor actually sees me the
swelling has resolved. (only lasts for a few days)

SO.... I just go along. slowly my need for prednosone grows higher, cuts
heal more solwly, etc.

I am thinking that I am going to ask doc to try just a low dose of
methotrexate and see it a low dose is enouggh to alow me to lower the
prednosone a bit
