Hi,

My husband recently had a painful lump in his testicle. He went to see a
urologist who apparently told him it was a blocked sweat gland that had
become infected. The urologist drained the infection and prescribed
ciprofloaxin to treat it.

Does this sound correct? I have read on a few websites that ciprofloaxin is
also prescribed to treat STD's, this worries me as I am pregnant, could this
really be an infected sweat gland, or is my husband trying to cover up for
something more serious? Please help.

There is a huge difference between a painful lump in the testicle and a
painful lump in the skin of the scrotum, so you need to be more clear about
your terminology. The testicle doesn't HAVE sweat glands, for example. The
question is between an orchitis or epidymitis (testicle) vs. an infected
sebaceous cyst (scrotal skin). The former *might* be some sort of STD, the
latter would never be.

Hi,

Sorry I should have been clearer, the lump was of the scrotum, NOT the
testicle itself,  I was told that it was an infected sweat gland that had
become blocked and then had become infected. It was a long hard mass in the
scrotum that had to be drained,  does this sound right?

An infection of the skin of the scrotum from a blocked sweat gland
(sebaceous cyst) would be very unlikely to be related to any kind of STD.
