VA Benefits -- Aid & Attendance?

Howdy folks,

A question about getting Aid & Attendance benefits...  My uncle is in an
assisted living facility (skilled nursing staff but not a "skilled nursing
facility").  He also goes to an adult day care center during the day.  The
day care people say that he might qualify for VA A&A, but that's all the
help they can give us.

Anyone have experience about applying for this and if either of these might
qualify for it?  Also, how much $$ are we talking about?

Thanks in advance!

John

I suspect that would be a non-service connected pension with aid and
attendance. You don't provide enough information to be specific but the
following site has about the clearest information on the subject I've seen
online:
http://www.pinellascounty.org/Veterans/disability.htm
The VBA site seems to be unresponsive at the moment but you can contact the
VA direct at their toll free number: 1-800-827-1000

The VA isn't all hung up on requiring specific forms providing you provide
the necessary information but the form outlines the info necessary
concisely. You can submit it to the nearest VA Regional Office.

If you aren't experienced in applying for veterans benefits, I'd recommend
you enlist the assistance of a Service Officer from one of the Veterans
Service Organizations such as the Disabled American Veterans, American
Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, etc. It's free, you don't have to join and
they are chartered by the VA to assist. Their service can range from
absolutely abysmal to excellent. It is up to you to stay on top of things.

Many thanks, JM!  Will check into that site and the VA Service officers.
