Now that they've outlawed ephedrine and pseudoephredine in my state, not
that I care one way or another about pseudocrap `cause I thought it wasn't
even close to the real thing -- ephedrine -- almost as good as an
amphetamine if you had zero tolerance to it and took 100 mg or so, well, now
they are selling Phenylephrine OTC around here `cause they say Uncle Fester
(yes, I read, I don't do it but I know how it's done -- I know how to access
organic chem literature too but having zero lab experience I'm not dumb
enough to risk blowing myself to kingdome come) doesn't have a recipe to
convert it into something illegal. Heck I never did care about street drugs.
For one thing they're illegal, for another they're dangerous to make even
outside the realm of legality, and why risk it if you can get something OTC
that makes the hair on the back of your head stand up if you take enough?
I am just writing because I want to know how many milligrams of
Phenylephrine HCL you need to get a low grade rush and whether it is really
safer than ephedrine which the makers of OTC diet pills would have you
believe is nearly as cardiotoxic as a genuine prescription drug. Gosh, the
powers that be seem to make everything that's fun illegal. I just wonder how
long it will be before they make this stuff illegal too? The pattern seems
to be:
a.) someone discovers substance X causes a rush if you take enough,
b.) OTC diet pill makers add it to their formulations,
c.) Joe and JaneCardioIntolerant gets their mitts on it and croak sooner
than they would have if they just stuck with drinking coffee and tea and
smoking cigarettes, and
d.) the state and Federal Government steps in and makes it illegal for our
own good. Whose own good? The cardiointolerants??? Peanut butter can kill
too, so why don't they make it illegal? Easy. It doesn't cause a rush.
The whole legality process gets accelaerated if some bozo figures out how to
ruin it for all law abiding citizens if he/she figures out how to do some
organic chem magic on it and turn from something that just barely does the
trick to something illegal after changing a carbon ring or two, then rinsing
and drying the precipitate it according to the latest scheme, whereupon it
gets outlawed just like everything else that gives you a legal buzz.
Will they make caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine illegal too when someone
figures out how to take them to the next level?
Sorry. I digress. I am just wondering what the maximum "safe" level of
phenylephrine is for a 95 kg. person? I find, presently 60 mg will
sometimes work if I wait two or three days, or ideally longer, between uses.
I am wondering what the ideal max dosage is for someone in my weight range
that doesn't even get tachycardia from a 60 mg dose but does get a
delightful urge to comb my hour repeatedly which tells me it is within the
realm of possible that it can do the trick. I know I can get the answers re
dosage, overdosage, and toxicity at the med library but I figure why make a
trip if someone here has the answer on the tip of their tongue? Surely
someone from Lily reads these posts.
Also, what is the "shelf life" beyond the date on the package. It says these
expire in July 2007 but anticipating the fact the government can't stand to
see us enjoy anything that gives any kind of rush whatsoever it is probably
only a matter of time before they outlaw this stuff as well. I made a huge
mistake not stockpiling ephedrine when I could get Eli Lily's for $3 per
hundred (back in the mid-seventies) so I am wondering if I had stockpiled
them back in the 70's and had thousands here and there now would they still
be good even if they "expired" in 1980 and these new pills, how far beyond
their stated shelf life are they still phrmacologically effective?

Don't sell yourself short, Bob. It seems to me that you may very well be
just that dumb. Hang in there, I'll bet you could pull it off easily.

Typical newsgroup response. One well-intentioned accurate post for every 75
that miss the mark. C'est la vie. My dad was a chemist; I know better than
to fool around where I don't belong. It doesn't even take a Mensa card in my
wallet to convince me of that. I do online and web research for a living. I
could easily find the answer to any question I ask in a newsgroup. Sometimes
I just like to get the opinions of other people who have wondered the same
things and perhaps already have the answer. I have read enough sci* posts to
know some pretty smart people post here. I guess you were just trying to be
funny. Okay. Haha. Sorry I didn't catch it sooner.

And to think my friends and relatives think I'm sarcastic. Oh, if they only
had exposure to the newsgroups. Then they could see "the other half" is not
much different than me. LOL

Funny, Howie. How often do you take mood altering drugs? Not even aspirin?
If you're in a crappy mood before the aspirin and in a good mood two hours
later, wouldn't you call aspirin a mood altering drug?
Okay, Howie. Can you come up with any stats on how many people were killed
by ephedrine over the past 100 years? Okay, how about aspirin? Now which
one do you think is a more dangerous drug?
Try taking 40 25 milligrams ephedrines AFTER you've developed a tolerance to
them. Then try taking 40 325 grain aspirins. Tell me which of the two make
you feel sicker.
The feds just dont wnat to see people feel good unless they should happen to
get a headache. THEN watch how fast they'll pop a mood altering drug.
Nuff said.
I rest my case.
