I recently saw a urologist for what I believed was a hernia. He
didn't think I had a hernia, but thought I may have a variocele. I
have an appointment for an ultrasound in a couple days. Has anyone had
this done? What does it entail? Do you get an immediate
result/physicians diagnosis? Any info would be appreciated

The results usually come at a followup appointment with the doctor that
ordered the test. Usually, he/she orders the ultrasound, the tech does the
ultrasound, the images are later reviewed by a radiologist, who dictates a
report which is sent to the ordering doctor. Sometimes the radiologist is
present when the ultrasound is done. That radiologist may or may not inform
you of the results of the test.

The purpose of the ultrasound is to see if the mass your doctor is feeling
in the scrotum is a nest of dilated blood vessels. Google varicocele -

information.
