I was working in the garage and had a router bit fly out of the machine
when I turned it on and gashed the side of my neck. it is about an inch
long and maybe 4 mm deep? (Not sure) Did not bleed alot.
Is there something I can do to prevent scaring? I cleaned it out and
used neosporen and took a knuckle band aid and pulled the wound tight
togther and used the bandaid to hold it closed.
Will it always be red and discolored? As you can tell, I am worried
abotu how it will look.

A few years ago, I felt FLAT SMACK
on my face,
on the sidewalk.
I must have momentarily passed out,
or lost BP
but all of a sudden, the sidewalk was coming
AT MY FACE,
and my glasses cracked, and my chin
took the impact.
The next day, my face was like a watermellon.
It was Labor Day weekened.
I went ot Cornell ER, and got a tetnas shot.
They told me to see a derm as soon as I could.
Some neosporin, some corisol, and my chin
did not scare, but it was nasty.
Have a doctor see it NOW.
Do not put peroxide on it, said Sherry Lagin, MD.

You may need stitches, too.

and a GOOD dermatologist ASAP.

Unfortunately there is nothing that will prevent scaring but letting a
doctor treat the wound with stiches if needed, etc...will minimalize
any scarring.
Also realize what scaring is, the skin freaking out over a wound and
rushing to heal. The slower the heal the less scarring develops.
Children suffer the most scarring because of their healthy skin.
However, in time scars do often fade and may go away over the years.
