Bloomberg Calls for Public Health Reform

NEW YORK, NY, January 27, 2006 - Mayor Bloomberg made public health a
major focus of his State of the City address yesterday. Bloomberg
announced several initiatives, including a campaign to make sure every
public school student has health insurance.

REPORTER: The mayor also wants to cut the number of HIV-related deaths
in the city by 40 percent over the next three years. City Council
Speaker Christine Quinn praised the mayor's health care plans.

QUINN: You know the mayor and I share a deep commitment to public
health and trying to improve the public health in New York City and if
we can work on that for the next four years we will make the city a
better place.

REPORTER: Quinn says proposed budget cuts in Albany will prove
challenging but only force the council and the mayor to work harder in
improving public health.
