Athlete's foot or toilet seat bacteria?

I used to sleep on the floor, I was diagnosed with borderline HBP
last year, this
year took and then stopped hydrochlorothiazide, am watching sodium
intake, take
vitamins, eat fresh fruits, some canned vegetables and tv dinners,
had an infection
in my gums, was given penicillin which also gave me diarrhea and
used it all, now
experience diarrhea, actually feces comes out thready. Could it be
IBS or just that
my system is taking so long cleaning itself from the
hydrochlorothiazide and penicillin
I took before? Or, is it due to athlete's foot fungus, for which I
am now applying
chlormazole (sp?), and can athlete's foot fungus spread to the penis
and anus? Or
can it be pesky bacteria from the toilet seat (or fecal matter)
getting into the penis or
anus? I experience a burning sensation when I sit, yesterday I felt
pain even I went
for a walk for 90 minutes. I took a good hot shower today after
about three weeks
of not feeling like doing so. ????

It's very important that you only stop your HBP medication under the
supervision of your doctor.  Uncontrolled HBP can cause your heart to
enlarge dangerously, can damage your kidneys, or cause you to have a
stroke.

> am watching sodium
> intake, take

Good, but I don't think these changes have been shown to control even
borderline HBP.  Regular aerobic exercise (like brisk walking 3x a week
for at least 30 minutes) may bring your BP down enough to get you off
the meds, but you still need your doc to monitor this.

>some canned vegetables and tv dinners,

Maybe too much sodium there.  However, some people have HBP that does
not respond to reducing sodium, so you can't rely on it to control your
BP anyway.  Regular exercise is your best bet to safely get off
medication, under your doc's supervision.

I don't see how your diarrhea could have anything to do with the HCTZ
since diarrhea isn't listed as a side-effect of HCTZ, and you're not
even taking it anymore.  More likely:  The antibiotics may have wiped
out the friendly bacteria in your colon, causing you to have an
overgrowth of yeast, which causes diarrhea.  You might eat some yogurt
every day for a week or so, or take acidophilus capsules (aka
probiotics) from a heath food store to repopulate the normal friendly
bacteria in your GI tract.

> Or, is it due to athlete's foot fungus, for which I

Jock itch and athlete's foot are caused by the same fungus, but if your
anus is itchy and you have diarrhea, it's probably candida albicans (a
yeast infection) in your lower GI tract.  You've killed off your
friendly bacteria with the antibiotics, so you're more susceptible to
fungal/yeast infections of all kinds now.

> Or
>    can it be pesky bacteria from the toilet seat (or fecal matter)

>    anus?

People don't actually get sick from toilet seats any more than from
touching other surfaces in public places.  Just wash your hands after
you use a public restroom, and don't touch your face unless your hands
are clean.  The jock itch and your itchy anus are probably caused by
different germs, but may both be promoted by your recent course of
antibiotics.  In my experience, you have to treat the itchy anus from
the inside with yogurt or probiotics, or if you wait long enough, the
friendly flora will eventually repopulate on their own.  The jock itch
and athlete's foot you can treat with tioconazole or any of the other
topical antifungal agents, but personally I like LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL
better.  I think it works a lot faster and better than the OTC meds.
My friends and family all use this and swear by it.  You can get it at
a natural grocery or sometimes at health food stores.  If you have an
active infection on or around your penis, it will sting like crazy if
you don't mix it with another oil.  You can use mineral oil.  I like
almond oil, but it's nutritive and some say it increases your risk for
promoting microbial growth, but I haven't found that to be the case.  I
mix 1/2 ounce of lavender essential oil in 8 oz of almond oil (but
mineral oil might be safer).  Apply it once a day after bathing; it
works in a few days, but keep using it for at least a week, and at the
first sign of returning symptoms.  It works like a charm for TOPICAL
fungus or yeast like athlete's foot, jock itch, and vaginal yeast
infections.  (DON'T DRINK IT.)

But of course be sure you're washing your feet and privates every day.
This will reduce the numbers of yeast/fungus.  The OTC antifungal
agents recommend washing twice a day and applying.  Are you doing this?

They had me stop the thiazide (side effects; probably wasn't needed
anymore)
 as of Nov 28th.

TV dinners limited to 500mg-700mg sodium (one serving only) in a
day.
Does not mean I will eat everyday; eventually I may stop them, for
only
as long as they are $1.00 each, I buy and heat (in microwave) at this
local market.

Yes, exercise as simple as activity as walking if not more.

Constipation and hemorrhoids were a side effect of the HCTZ. I was
mainly
borderline HBP and the doctor was scared to give me the HCTZ in the
first place. Someone suggested I cxonsult an attorney since the doctor
may have made an error. The only benefit I can see from having taken
it
(it was upped twice a few days before I stopped--actually a tranquiizer
would have better than the diuretic, which had pretty much run its
course of productivity. At the onset I urinated like crazy, but as
time
went by the pottasium, calcium and magnesium being excreted became
 a serious danger.
I have taken Metamucil twice a day since last Fri, as well. Ate some
papaya
 yesterday as well.

Interesting how athlete's foot fungus can spread to the rest of the
body.
I feel vibrations at times at the back of my neck, in my hamstrings
and
in my feet too. Could very well be the GI tract, this began in the
summer.

I have heard suggestions of using hydrogen peroxide, after
shave lotion or rubbing alcohol directly on the penis as well.
Maybe the clorimazole creme used for the fungus can be good on the
penis,
too? Maybe exposure to latex or rubber can irritate the penis.

I have been applying the cream on the toes and feet twice ay but I
don't
wash my feet or privates everyday. On the other hand, it sounds like a
good idea, maybe the hassle is worth the bother.

You may not have been drinking enough fluids.

To effectively sue for malpractice or negligence, you have to have some
sort of lasting injury that you can prove in court is the direct result
of an error by a healthcare professional.

That's not what I said.  Only jock itch and athlete's foot are the
same.

>  I feel vibrations at times at the back of my neck, in my hamstrings

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract starts at your mouth and ends at your
anus, so I don't think those symptoms are related to your GI tract.

>    I have heard suggestions of using hydrogen peroxide, after
> shave lotion or rubbing alcohol directly on the penis as well.

Well, I promise if you try that last one, you'll only do it once, and
it's not likely to help much.  Rubbing alcohol stings.  Shave lotion
has alcohol in it and will sting too.  The peroxide might kill a few
fungi but it doesn't stay on the infected area long enough to kill them
all.  The lavender oil remedy is cheaper, easier, and works a lot
better than anything else, including all the very expensive
over-the-counter creams you can buy.  It smells better too.  It also
reduces the itching and stinging on contact.

> Maybe the clorimazole creme used for the fungus can be good on the
> penis,
> too?

Clotrimazole is fine for jock itch and athlete's foot, but you have to
wash the area and apply it twice a day for up to four weeks.

> Maybe exposure to latex or rubber can irritate the penis.

Well, yeah, if you're rubbing it on your penis while masturbating.
When you're aroused, you don't have the same sensations of pain as when
you're not, so you're probably exacerbating the jock itch with the sex
toys, and the toys may be a reservoir for reinfecting your skin with
fungus.  How about laying off the latex toys until your infection is
better?  You'll need to clean them carefully before using them again
after your infection goes away.

I can virtually promise you that your infection will *not* go away
unless you wash at least once a day.  You should at least rinse or wipe
the affected area each time before you apply the antifungal cream.  If
you wash daily and apply the essential lavender oil remedy I
recommended, your jock itch and athlete's foot will be greatly improved
or gone in less than a week and you'll only have to wash and apply it
once a day.

Well, the MD was hesitant to prescribe HCTZ but did it anyway.
Maybe he
should not have gambled. I am not the type to be an opportunist for $,
but I am
considering consulting an attorney out of curiosity anyway. Wouldn't
get much out of it

The same type infection...no wonder my penis burns at times when I
urinate.
The toilet seat bacteria I referred to were on my *own* toilet seat
not public.

Well, at one point  before they took me off the HCTZ I felt a wave
of vibrations from
the mouth to the anus.

bacteria from the
bathroom sink in which it rested at times.

I have since thrown away one of them, it came with a talc cream. It
was a vagina
molded after porn star Tera Patrick's vagina, supposedly.

I'll try. My right big toe was aching the other day, it has been
infected pretty
much for several but I have paid more attention to it lately. The skin
on my right leg
has a burning sensation every so often. My right metatarsal hurts as
well. I don't
know if it has to do with shoes, (I tried an orthotic but I pained
some yesterday,
also I feel muscle spasms in my back when I walk. Could be related to
the
JI/AF infections too?

I bought fungal infection medicine at Wal-Mart. May try that soon.
I'll
keep your lavender oil therapy in mind, nothing to lose. (I know
aftershave
lotion stings but the burning of the skin is aggravating enough as it
is. )

Coffee contains caffeine, which is a diuretic (as is HCTZ), and tends
to dehydrate you.  When you get dehydrated, you're at risk for getting
constipated.

You won't get anything out of it.  Most likely the attorney will get
you out of his office before he's heard much of your story.  It's a
nonstarter.  Whoever told you to consult an attorney was just plain
wrong.

>  The toilet seat bacteria I referred to were on my *own* toilet seat
> not public.

Assuming your toilet seat isn't visibly soiled with icky stuff, it
isn't likely to make you sick.  Unless you have a lot of parties or
share a bathroom with a neighbor, you're probably immune to most of the
germs at your own house.

>    Well, at one point  before they took me off the HCTZ I felt a wave

I don't know what that could be.

> bacteria from the
>  bathroom sink in which it rested at times.

First of all, your own semen isn't likely to make you sick.  Second,
you apparently don't have a bacterial infection.  You say you have jock
itch, which is a fungal infection.  The fungus that causes jock itch
lives on everybody's skin all the time, but they don't get infected
with it because the friendly bacteria that live on their skin compete
with the fungus so it doesn't overgrow, and besides that, clean,
healthy skin is slightly acidic and salty, which is bad for fungus.  If
your skin stays irritated and wet, and you don't wash it enough, you
create conditions which make fungus very happy, and so they overgrow
and you get a fungal infection, also known as jock itch or athlete's
foot.  The antibiotics you took recently probably killed a lot of the
friendly bacteria that live on your skin and compete with the fungus,
which also promoted the fungal infection.  To get the fungus under
control with the clotrimazole or any other antifungal cream, you're
going to have to wash twice a day and apply the cream to all affected
areas for at least two weeks, maybe four.

Well let me just say, the less I know about your interactions with
latex vaginas, the better.  :p  Just wash them each time after you use
them.

No.  The muscle spasms can't be related to your jock itch or athlete's
foot.

Okay, but just the way I said.  Don't go buying lavender massage oil or
lotion -- it won't work; it may have lavender fragrance with no real
lavender in it.  It has to be LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL mixed about 1:16.
(Half an ounce in 8 ounces of mineral oil or almond oil, or a quarter
ounce in 4 oz, etc.)  Real lavender essential oil is a very effective
antifungal.

I drank coffee even when I took HCTZ, before and now after I was
taken off HCTZ.
I like coffee too much, I have a cup or two at McDonald's, have instant
Vietnamese
Caphe Sua (Coffee with cream and sugar in powder form) which I also
consume at
home. Maybe I need to stop coffee intake to stop these muscle spams? I
moved my
bowels this morning but felt pain before I did and also before I
urinated.

> Did he say why he was hesitant?

No, but I presume he thought I was only borderline and maybe did not
really need it?
Or maybe he was worried of the side effects? By consuming coffee I was
overdosing on
diuretics.

misprescribed.

Well, i used to masturbate frequently until I stopped a few months
ago; I only
masturbate once every other day. Once I feel asleep on the toilet seat
and woke
up with a burning sensation with my penis still erect. I don't know
whether it may
have gotten caught between the toilet seat and the toilet. It hurt like
hell. When I was
urinating frequently while taking the diuretic, the penis's veins were
purplish.
I'm not circumcized anyway. Could it be residue of urine aggravated the
skin,
or from not washing more often after urinating?

The local pharmacist yesterday informed me cream for athlete's foot
can be used
on the anus, rectum and other skin areas.

There are a lot of possible causes of muscle spasms.  Dehydration for
example, and low potassium and low magnesium.  You'll need to see your
doctor.  Nobody can effectively diagnose or treat you over the
internet.

> > Did he say why he was hesitant?

I don't know.  Why don't you make another appointment and ask him?  You
have a lot of health concerns, like your muscle spasms, that you really
need to take up with your doctor.

>By consuming coffee I was
> overdosing on

Well, probably you just weren't drinking enough water.  The patient
education guidelines for diuretics recommend counseling patients to
drink about 2 liters of fluids a day, but telling them that caffeinated
beverages like coffee, tea, and cola don't count, though decaffeinated
coffee can be counted as fluid intake.

I don't know, but *in general* you don't need to worry about a
condition that has resolved, or an event that happened only once.

>   The local pharmacist yesterday informed me cream for athlete's foot

He probably told you could use it on and around the anus, but I don't
think he said you could use it inside your rectum.  If he did say that,
he misspoke; your rectum is inside your body.  But like I said before,
if you have diarrhea and an itchy anus, you may have something else
going on, so the antifungal cream may not be particularly effective.

the floor.

Not homeless. Just had no desire to shower for three years, the
lousy way I've felt.
Muscle spasms in my hamstring muscles, lower back (tail bone), maybe
from lifting objects and taklng them downstairs down a flight of stairs
that have only one railing on the
left side going down (right side going up). The railing stops before
the third last step.
I used to sleep on the living room floor for at least three-four years.
Maybe this has lead
to the muscle spasms? Lately I've experienced them even when I walk.
Could be improper shoes? I tried orthotic supports in the shoes and I
have tried without them, same muscle
spasms. I even feel them when I sit. Maybe sitting for lengthy periods
causes spasms?
At times down the side of my right leg.
