My wife had laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery (left side) about a
week and a half ago, and is STILL very sore.  She has bruising from
half way down her inner thigh to above her naval.
Her belly and lower abdomen are still swelled.  She is in a LOT of
pain, for someone who rarely uses anything more than tylenol, it is
unusual for her to need vicodin and/or lortab (codiene).

I understand that everyone is differant, but I am worried for her,
especially since she also has Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Is this normal?

How long does this usually (generally) last?

Thanks for any answers that might put us at ease.

Sounds like a bleeder got away. Inferior epigastrics or something else in
the preperitoneal space, or (perhaps more likely) a bleeder in the abdominal
wall. Now she has a hematoma (blood clot) in the subcutaneous tissue and
that is probably contributing to the pain and swelling. Such a thing, if
that's what it is, shouldn't be dangerous, but is likely to cause some
discomfort for another week or two. Possibly longer if there's a hematoma in
the preperitoneal space..
