I came down with shingles about 3 weeks ago. At first it was just on my
back, then a very small patch on my chest and then a couple of very
small light patches on my arm. This was all in the first week. I saw my
doctor after that and she felt I was on the mend. This morning , a new
patch
appeared on my arm. Instead of a red patch with a lot of small bumps it
is simply a short line of small bumps. They itch but there is no new
pain. Is it normal to get a late eruption like this?

Was anything medication prescribed to treat your shingles?  Acyclovir
(Zovirax) or valacyclovir (Valtrex)?  If so, at what dose and for how
long?

The pattern that you see with patches of shingles is completely normal. The
outbreak follows the pattern of nerve distribution because the virus
literally survives in the nerve cells (the nerves cells (or neurons) are
located in the dorsal root ganglia).

Yeah, but a line of itchy bumps appearing 3 weeks after the initial
outbreak, doesn't sound like shingles. The time course is wrong, and
the symptoms are wrong. Lines of itchy bumps make me think of things
like scabies.  Either there's two separate problems, or else a wrong
initial diagnosis. Did this hurt to begin with, or always just itch??
