"Five of his papers in prestigious scientific journals have made the
biggest impact. They present empirical evidence that fishery harvests
are declining around the globe, and that the fishing industry is not
only wiping out certain species, but is also taking so much biomass
that a third of the world's oceans have become the undersea equivalent
of a clear-cut forest.

Dr. Pauly, who has written about 30 books and presented 500 scientific
papers, was also honoured with the Cosmos Prize for his work
establishing and promoting Fishbase, a global database of fish species;
a website (http://www.theseaaroundus.org); and a system to analyze
accurate fish harvests

We can do something:

buy whole fish and make fish broth with the 'waste'.
buy salmon fishoil supplements that are made from salmon heads and
other waste parts.
let your government know your concerns about how your fishery is
handled.

Wondering if anyone has links for tuna.

You already posted on tuna from Eartheasy. Everybody agrees that
Albacore is not in danger. There's argument over yellowfin and
skipjack, and I'll have to say that many disagree with this site (there
seems to be lots of them, on inventory).

But again, everybody agrees that the Japanese are pretty much wiping
out the bluefin with unsustainable practices, and it will go the way of
the rhino and tiger were headed, if somebody doesn't do something.

I want the dirt on how the various types are caught, where, what's
caught with it (dolphins?) and what govt is doing what about that. I
suspect Greenpeace but was hoping someone else had the links. I'm too
busy to do this now.

I would have been elected King, and will have all their heads chopped
off with a dull axe.

Just thought that level of posting might want to be improved upon.  You
guys are pathetic.
