So I have me a nasty upper respiratory virus.  Aches, sinus headache, low
grade fever *was high grade) chills, swolen glands.  Etc.  I have noticed
that everytime I get one fo these now (well, not everytime but often) I
get diarreah.  Stomach otherwise isn't bothering me.  Why is this?  Why
does this happen wiht a non-gastro flu?

The things I wonder about...

The first place I'd look would be at what else has changed:
Are you taking any meds (including OTC) for the URI?  What's
different about your diet when you have a URI?

I don't get diarrhea with a URI, but my meds and diet certainly
differ from the usual.

Could be electrolyte imbalance,
impacting cell-membrane osmotic/permeability,
eg, excessive water loss ~~~~> diarreaha.
