Apologies if I'm in the wrong group - but my wife and I have recently
experienced this and were looking for some answers.

Obviously we've gone thru the usual channels asking doctors etc. but
the story seems to vary depending upon which one you talk to!

My wife gave up smoking the day we learned she was pregnant, stopped
taking propananol [for migraines] and metaformine [to ensure regular
periods] on the advice of the doctor. She also suffers from polysistic
ovaries.

Would any of these drugs have had a detrimental effect on her
fertility? Or ability to carry a child longer than 4 weeks???

There are nearly as many causes of spontaneous abortion as there are
women who experience them. Certainly the medicines she had been taking
could have played a role, as well as her age, general health, genetic
makeup, etc. Polycystic ovaries are more likely to cause problems
acheiving pregnancy, but if there is severe enough hormonal problem
involved, that too could play a role. One the other hand, many many
young women women experience an early spontaneous abortion with their
first pregnancies and go on to have have other full-term pregnancies.
