I have been to my GP, neurologists.... everything to no avail. About 4 months
ago i started experiencing a central, dull headache. Now this was the only
problem for about a month... one morning i woke up and my headache was
accompanied by a really disorientated, spacey feeling... its hard to explain :
Its really hard to concentrate, mentally slow, feel really spaced out i go
into my own little world and i believe i lack normal levels of emotion. This
has gradually gotten worse and persisted for the past 2 months. Ive recently
had a consultation with a neurologist and an MRI: MRI come back clear apart
from some abnormality which the neurologist thought was more consistent with
'mild ectopia' then 'chiari malformation' - whatever they are. The
neurologist prescribed me with an anti depressant which is apparently also
used for headaches (amitrip) which has done nothing.
This may be of significance... in early 2004 i was working with leadbased
paint extensively for 3 weeks, not knowing the dangers. Apparently it was
'red led'... i was breathing this stuff in heavily everyday for these 3 weeks
and i noticed a metallic taste in my mouth during this time.
Also at the start of the year before these headaches started to occur i had a
blood test which showed inadequte levels of vitamin B12... this may also have
some significance?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated... im going absolutely nuts here.

I would have to allege (without the important history and physical exam
of a patient) that your exposure to the lead and the symptoms you have
are almost diagnostic of lead poisoning. If I were you, I would seek a
consultation with an Internist or adjacent specialty to further explore
this anomaly and for them to recommend any treatment for your what must
be painful condition. It would seem too, that some liability for the
exposure must inure to whoever was directing you in this venture. If
just doing it on your own home, then your lack of identification of
this hazard was indeed unfortunate. I wish you good luck.

One of the things that lead poisoning can do is decrease the production red
blood cells, just like vitamin B-12 can. One possibility is that your doctor
assumed that your problem was B-12 when it is lead.
I would definitely go back to your doctor and make sure that you get a lead
test if you didn't get one already.
