gotta go...gotta go!!! - 04 Aug 2005 19:51 GMT
Ever since I was a about 5 or 6, I have had "problems" with my bladder. I
would get infection after infection. I would just finish off my antibiotics
and within a couple weeks I would get hit with another bladder infection. I
had many tests and ultrasounds done but with no conclusion why the infections
kept occurring. Anyways, as I got older I very rarely get a bladder infection
(maybe 1 every 1-2 years). I am now 20 years old and for about 8 years now, I
constantly have to urinate. Not just the "urge to urinate but nothing comes
out" sort of thing, but everytime I feel I have to go, I really have to go -
(which is between 15 and 25 times a day). I have tried drinking plenty of
water, not too much water, omitting salt and caffeine, exercise, resisting
the urge to go but still nothing works. In regards to having 'Overactive
Bladder Syndrome', I have read that you usually cannot quite make it to the
bathroom before you start to leak urine....this has never happened to me...
yet! In an average night, I urinate between 0-3 times a night (usually only
once though), but during the day....... thats a whole other story. Its
emabrassing to always be having to interrupt whatever I am doing to find a
bathroom! Any ideas on what this may be and what I can do to help eliviate
this? I am planning on seeing my doctor but cannot get an appointment for
another 3 and half months.

I should also add that I am not taking any medication and I had a cystoscopy
when I was younger with nothing showing up that would be a concern.

I'd say that seeing a doctor is your best hope.    I'm not one, but have
suffered urinary tract problems since my late twenties.   I won't say how long
that is except that I've probably got socks that are older than you are.

There are just too many possible reasons and too many well-intentioned people
who will tell you that it's the same problem they have....

0-3 times per night?   Ahhhhh, those were the days....-)

I agree with seeing a urologist. I won't say it sounds like something I
have, because it doesn't, although the symptoms described do sound
suggestive of interstitial cystitis, even though the OP mentioned a
normal cystoscopy. Since the OP didn't mention gender, it could also be
a bunch of other stuff. If the OP is female, Kegel exercises may help
with the symptoms, and it can't cause harm.

Also, I do Kegels several times a day.....no luck (been doing them
consistantly for the last year or so)

Elavil is the answer.  My bladder has never been healthier.  I had I.C. for
15 to 20 years.
Finally got the right drug.

She doesn't even have a dx yet. If she doesn't have IC, Elavil won't
help but it will give her dry mouth for several years. If she has
bladder spasms, Elavil probably won't help but Ditropan might. If her
problem is anatomical, other therapy might be appropriate. Evaluation by
a urologist is what she needs, not random pharmaceutical recommendations.

Then it's not your prostate.

Things like pregnancy/vaginal delivery, anatomical abnormalities,
bladder capacity, ability to to fully empty bladder, etc etc etc can
cause the type of problem you are imcompletely describing. As I
mentioned, only a urologist can properly evaluate your problem.
