Richard Fangnail - 01 Aug 2005 17:57 GMT If you wanted to kill yourself with a knife, what parts of the body would cause the most blood loss the fastest?
I've read that the inner thighs would be a good place but most people cut their throats ear to ear.
(I'm not going to do it - I'm just curious)

The femoral, accessible in the leg, or the carotid, just below the ear, are what I've heard are the best choices.

A paramedic told me that most people slit their wrists...across. But if they'd start at the wrist and cut deeply *going upwards*, they'd cause a wound that would sever several arteries quickly, and they'd bleed out before their cry for "rescue" was answered.
I'm not going to test it.

I think you would sever veins, not arteries. You would die, but not *that* quickly. It is true that to actually die, you need to cut the wrists lengthways, cutting across usually produces a wound that will coagulate enough to stop bleeding, and you'll live to have to clean up the mess.
> I'm not going to test it. Oh c'mon, there has to be *somebody* you really, really don't like.

Carey Gregory - 01 Aug 2005 19:48 GMT >The left ventricle, any advance on the left ventricle? Yeah, that'll sure do the job if the cut is large enough, but cutting your own left ventricle would take some serious chutzpah. You would have to plunge a knife between ribs, which takes some force and is going to hurt like hell, and do it in exactly the right spot, angle, and depth.
Much easier to just lay open the carotid artery. Easy to find and easy to cut.
tiny dancer - 01 Aug 2005 19:52 GMT > >The left ventricle, any advance on the left ventricle? > [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > Much easier to just lay open the carotid artery. Easy to find and easy to > cut. Better yet, take a bottle of pills, down 'em with a bottle of Jack Daniels.

>Better yet, take a bottle of pills, down 'em with a bottle of Jack Daniels. Yawn. Puke the lot right up.
Pills are a bad way to kill yourself, if you're not equipped and prepared.
Suicide is even harder than Dorothy Parker made it out to be. And aside from how difficult it is, think of the poor souls who have to find your damn corpse, or scrape it off the pavement.
Bury yourself in a deep hole. It's the only thoughtful way.

There are very few certain means of suicide, and neither pills nor bleeding are among them. Both methods fail far more than they succeed.
But the topic here is suicide by bleeding, and for that method the carotid artery is clearly the best choice.
Kris Baker - 02 Aug 2005 01:52 GMT >>> tiny dancer goes: >>> [quoted text clipped - 12 lines] > But the topic here is suicide by bleeding, and for that method > the carotid artery is clearly the best choice. Actress Lupe Velez thought pills would be a great way to commit suicide. She carefully prepared her bed with candles and flowers all around, put the finest silks on, took the pills, and laid down. Unfortunately, she got sick. She didn't want to mess up her carefully planned dream of being found "dead but beautiful", so she struggled to the toilet......where she was found, dead, the next day. Reports differ on whether her head was found IN the toilet bowl, or if she collapsed next to it.

So you're saying that an attractive woman was concerned about her appearance, even after a suicide?
Another reason I don't think that idiot in Chicago that rammed her car in to three innocent victims really meant to commit suicide.

Nor "clearly" when he himself might his quietus make with a bare bodkin... If you must bleed, I vote with Hamlet for the thin round shiv between the ribs. The heart is easier to hit than a carotid, probably less painful since you don't muck around, and faster. And much less messy.
Hah, you say, how can anybody possibly miss a carotid?! Well, when it's YOUR neck, you can miss. On the other hand, if you hit it and change your mind, it's easier to survive. Direct pressure and 911 and you might just possibly make it. With the heart, it's much harder. It happens, but not often.

Yes, If you have ADD, it is far worse. Also, beware of ~
Confusion Induction Hypnosis.
That makes matters far worse.
If an Authority Figure Does that to you, you are particularly vulnerable.
If you are already traumatized, You even more vulnerable.
If an authority figure, Who wishes to conceal information, Does this to you while you are traumatized, And your life is in danger ~
You are exceptionally vulnerable.
That is undue manipulation, And that is very harmful.
If you have ADD, That compounds the situation exponentially.
Typo correction ~
When is "Telling an authority figure" You were abused Not good enough?
If you do that, and they deny your experience, How can you keep fighting?
If your rights are violated, And you tell the person you pay as your mental healthcare Provider,
And they deny this happened,
Who do you turn to, If there is no one else in your life?
"The Kosher lets you keep it safe and holy. Yahweh would no doubt send an approving nod your way for protecting the precious gift of free will he hath given unto you."
Free Will? Ha!
Not if trauma has you regressed to a child-like state. That is not Adult Free Will.
That is a state being compromised, Due to injury.
