Not a wart, but rather a gristle-like mass close to the bone. Curiously it
has caused my nail to grow with pits and lines. Should I be worried about
this?

It sounds like a ganglion cyst, but see a hand surgeon about it. Hand
surgeons are found among the ranks of orthopedists and plastic surgeons.

My middle finger has a bump on it.

I don't imagine a ganglion cyst would interrupt the nail matrix as he
describes. It probably is still a wart but it may be a rare
malignancy.
