If I have picked the wrong ng tell me which one I should post this in
please. I am male 62 and had a colostomy 5 years ago and had no
problems until recently when (this may not be connected) I caught a
chest infection. It took a long time to get rid of and I started to
have to use my back passage urgently two to three times a day. Hardly
used it at all for nearly 5 years until then so my GP had my stools
tested in case it was caused by the antibiotics. The result was
negative to that but since then my pouch has been extremely liquid too
and needs changing much more often. I went to the hospital as I was
also feeling pretty groggy and they told me it is not unusual for this
to happen but I find this hard to accept after a trouble free 5 years.
Has anyone else had anything like this happen please and is it
curable?

I'd be sure that they tested for C. difficile toxins A&B...  If
negative, then you might need another colonoscopy (assuming that
you're not taking any other medications that could change your GI
system, like sorbitol-containing cough medications for example).  H2

I am sorry but I have to follow up my own post as this may help
somebody else in a similar position. This is a very delicate subject
and I do not alway manage the best choice of words but here goes. I
have been 'as water' from my stoma and my anus since January when I
had a chest infection which required 3 different courses of
anti-biotics to clear. Suddenly today I realise eveything has 'firmed'
up nor am I having to use my anus. I have no explanation for this
improvement other than a couple of days ago I started taking a small
sprinkling of salt on my food. This of course may not be relevant at
all but maybe a clue to folks who know about these issues.
