Twittering One - 26 Jun 2005 21:01 GMT Fraud is . . .
Conduct intended to deceive. What You Can Do About Fraud
* First and foremost -- REPORT IT! * Any person can and should report fraudulent behavior. Physicians, hospital administrators and health maintenance organizations, in particular, have a legal obligation under public health law to report fraudulent practice.
What Will Happen to Your Report
* After you file a complaint, the Department of Health will investigate and, if it suspects fraud, present the matter to the Board. * The Board will carefully review your complaint, and if it appears to describe fraudulent practice, charges will be filed and a hearing will be scheduled. The hearing will be conducted before a panel of two physicians and one public member. * If the medical professional is found guilty of fraud, penalties may be imposed, such as unpaid community service, fines, suspensions or license revocations. * Successful prosecution of fraud will be publicized in a widely distributed written report and on the Internet. The name of the person filing the complaint will be held in confidence, as required under law. Legal action cannot be upheld against a person filing a complaint in good faith.
Examples of Medical Fraud
* False and intentionally misleading statements to patients. * Submitting false bills or claims for service. * Falsifying medical records or reports. * Lying about credentials or qualifications. * Unnecessary medical treatment or drug prescription.

You can request a copy of your medical records from your physician. The cost can be no more than 75 cents per copied paper page.
A physician cannot refuse to let a patient see medical records because of an unpaid bill. For more information, contact the Access to Patient Information Program at 518-402-0814.

Twittering One - 28 Jun 2005 16:40 GMT My father committed suicide at the age of 42. I am in danger, too, Due to a higher risk.
All my life, I have lived with that fear. That fear is real. If I feel in danger, it is important to tell someone.
People need to respond appropriately. Hanging up on someone or ignoring them is not appropriate.
There are many guidelines that can help people understand What to do in crisis, Or when a person is in need.
People and professionals need better training. Survivors need more support and awareness of resources. I need more respect for my own struggle.
I have dedicated my life to helping others understand How to recognize a person at risk.
There's more work to do. I almost lost my life.
Once that happens, a person is never the same again.
I have told the truth about what happened To me in the healthcare system.
The healthcare system needs to work better. That won't likely happen unless people take me, And other advocates and/or survivors seriously.
I am not the same person now. I don't think I will ever be the same again.

Rule 1. The Therapeutic Alliance is critically important, Especially for a person Without a strong social network.

Twittering One - 01 Jul 2005 00:31 GMT ONe VERY important reason a healthcare professional Should report ANY Suspected abuse ~
That patient is VERY likely a serious Candidate for subsequent abuse.
The healthcare system, especially the mental healthcare System, is TOO circular, TOO sylogistic ~
The GATEkeepers Need to DO the f.cking job ~ !
Report abuse ANYTIME a patient tells you ...
If a patient tells you, She has taken a FIRST step.
