TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) -- Gov. Jeb Bush asked a prosecutor Friday
to investigate why Terri Schiavo collapsed 15 years ago, calling into
question how long it took her husband to call 911 after he found her.

In a letter faxed to Pinellas-Pasco County State Attorney Bernie
McCabe, Bush said Michael Schiavo testified in a 1992 medical
malpractice trial that he found his wife collapsed at 5 a.m., and he
said in a 2003 television interview that he found her about 4:30 a.m.
He called 911 at 5:40 a.m.

"Between 40 and 70 minutes elapsed before the call was made, and I am
aware of no explanation for the delay," Bush wrote. "In light of this
new information, I urge you to take a fresh look at this case without
any preconceptions as to the outcome."

Michael Schiavo's attorney, George Felos, did not immediately return a
telephone call seeking comment Friday from The Associated Press. In
comments in The Miami Herald, he said Terri Schiavo would not have
survived if her husband had not immediately called 911.

"It's absolutely preposterous," Felos said. "If he had waited 70
minutes she would have been dead."

Terri Schiavo died March 31 from dehydration after her feeding tube
was disconnected at her husband's request, despite unsuccessful
efforts by her parents, Bush and others to keep her alive.

An autopsy released Wednesday concluded that she had been in a
persistent vegetative state and revealed no evidence that she was
strangled or otherwise abused before she collapsed.

It left unanswered the question of why Terri Schiavo's heart stopped,
cutting oxygen off from her brain. The autopsy showed she suffered
irreversible brain damage and her brain had shrunk to half the normal
size for her age.

Isn't anyone going to leave this alone already?  I'm seriously starting
to think the Bushes are like the "morals mafia" and Shaivo got on their
"hit list."

If this keeps up I will NOT vote Republican again.  Also, it's clearly
racist and sexist that when a white woman dies zillions of dollars and
countless hour are spent probing into every details; when it's a
minority or a guy, no one gives a damn.

And I thought Dumbocrats were stupid.

I can't believe Jeb doesn't have handlers who are telling him he's taking
this too far. I mean who is this going to benefit? I though the whole point
of this was whether she had the right to die. Now they just want revenge on
her husband? Damn these people are wacked out.

Doesn't this cocksucker have a f.cking state to run?

Jesus Christ, his state has the most embarassing child protective
services in the country.  Maybe he should worry about people that are
actually ALIVE.

f.cking dumbshit.

I swear I thought I was dreaming when I read this. What business is it of
the governor to worry about how long it took for a guy to call 911 15 years
ago?

I believe he does have a f.cking state to run, and I believe it's a
state that has a serious problem with child protective services.  But
why waste time protecting the children of Florida from perverts and
child beaters when he could be investigating b.s. allegations and
getting his face in front of the camera?

Weel Jeb made sure he helped "at-risk" kids when he appointed some of his
pals to be the heads of the departments and they hired one of Jeb's
supporters to write a software program that cost $264 MILLION DOLLARS and
has not worked yet.

Instead of using that $264 Million Dollars to buy defective software, they
could have kept dozens of Youth Programs open for several years each. But
why coddle juvenile delinquents and mentally disturbed abused/molested kids?

Only the daughters of the rich and powerful can violate probation FOUR TIMES
and NOT go to prison.

Yeah,no kidding- Kids are disappearing from the florida child services
all over the place, turning up dead, vanishing or being murdered by
parents. How about putting some time and money into that? It's not
enough to be prolife. HOw about being anti-death and destruction?

As noted elsewhere - some people just CANNOT let go of an issue once they
have adopted it.  The autopsy shows that Mr Schiavo was justified in
campaigning for Terri to be allowed to 'die' (inasmuch as she could be said
to have been 'alive' at all).  Denied this cause to accuse Mr Schiavo, Bush
decides it's worth dredging up fifteen years' worth of pain just so he can
keep the faltering 'moral outrage' bandwagon going.

And bandwagon it is.  Where were the Bushes over the last fifteen years?
They had no interest in the case at all until they thought they could get
some publicity out of it.

Mr Schiavo and Terri's blood family have been through enough.  But Bush
evidently doesn't think so.

This is Jeb's way of keeping his name out there. He can't run for
Governor again. At least in Florida. And this is Dubya's last go round
too. Maybe then the Bush's will go away. This case is over and done and
should be allowed to rest.

When's the other Senator's seat up? I'm sure he can fix the race to win
that seat, he's had enough practice.

We aren't that lucky. There's a whole sh.t load of sleazy Bushes from

I saw this. I fail to see what this has to do with science or medicine.

Sadly, Mr. Schiavo lost his wife. He did nothing wrong. If he had concerns
about this, he should  have brought  them up years ago.

>>Jeb, when you find yourself in hole, stop digging. <<

LOL..  Seems to be a trait shared with the sib. In some cases
literally, as for a time GW kept drilling for oil in places where he
hadn't been able to find it, and nobody else had either. And then
metaphorically, there's Iraq.

Wonder where they got it from?  Neither the father or mother seems
particularly loopy, or to have any particular inability to admit error
(beyound human norms, anyway), or defeat.  Maybe it's just the old
"trying to live up to pop" syndrome. John Quincy Adams could never
admit error. JFK, Jr. never knew when to quit and go home to bed
either. This sort of thing can be very bad for sons of the famous.

He got it from his pop, who used to get obsessed with irrelevant issues
like flag burning when the country's economy was tanking. My father
also told me that in DC circled George Bush I was known for being
vengeful.

I wanna stress once again that I'm a Republican - a staunch one at that
-- and I will not vote Republican on anything if Jeb keeps up these
KGB-like tactics.  Google my name to see my history of bashing things
like Democrat and feminist causes.  BUT I will all but campaign for
Hilary if Jeb succeeds IN ANY WAY with this.   Just like his dad did,
he's gonna make a Democrat out of me.

It's a counter-propaganda move. The news that Terry's brain had shrunk
to 70% of its normal size was devastating to Gov. Bush and the
right-wingers who had made this their crusade. By opening a new issue in
the Schiavo case Bush hopes to divert attention from that finding until
the whole thing blows over.

Listen to Rush, Hannety, et al. They will be beating the drum for this
inquiry for a while.

The right in America has always been rabid. Remember the McCarthy
hearings?

70% of normal size? So it was still twice as big as our president's brain,
then.

Hmmm...but he can't get involved in the BOTCHED case of John Evander
Couey, huh? Couey could WALK. His MIRANDA RIGHTS weren't given
apparently before he confessed. If he doesn't WALK it still majorly
hurts the case. This is what JEB had to say to another citizen who
asked him to request that Brad King's office/Sherriff Dawsy be
investigated.

The Florida Constitution limits the Governor's intervention in
matters that should be resolved through the court system. The elected
state attorney has the sole discretion to file or decline to file
criminal charges in a particular case. There are ethical and legal
considerations based on both the quality and quantity of evidence
guiding the state attorney's decision. The Governor is not vested
with the same authority and cannot intervene in the decision making
process even if he were to disagree with the State Attorney's
decision."

HMMM...Terri's life was important, granted.

but not Jessica Lunsford's?

Not a 9 year old girl who was raped and buried alive? Can't intervene
hmmm...shouldn't. Its the law. The Constitution, YEAH F-CKING RIGHT!

HYPOCRITE. This man should NEVER follow in the footsteps of his brother
or father. No matter what party you affiliate with, no matter what your
VIEW on the Schiavo case...you must see the utter hypocrisy and offense.

Indeed. And the darkly funny part of this, is that these critics are
many of the SAME people who had been previously accusing the husband of
violence, since (so they said before the autopsy) a young healthly girl
like that shouldn't be having a cardiac arrest spontaneously.  Which is
probably *exactly* what the poor husband was thinking at the time, or
else he'd have called 911 a lot sooner!  Sigh. Boy, hindsight is sure
20-20. But these rightwing bastards who NOW want the guy to have called
911 sooner for her NOW presumed cardiac arrest, don't have the
slightest bit of embarrassment or self-insight on this flipflop.
