Aluminium with the -ium makes more sense for a metal than aluminum. I
don't know the story about how it got the "um" on this side of the
Atlantic.
APAP (what doctors here usually write) is the abbreviation for the
chemical which is is N-*a*cetyl-*p*ara*-*a*mino*p*henol. So
"paracetamol" is as good a generic name for that as our
"acetaminophen." Tylenol, of course, is a brand name, which they
probably wouldn't recognize in the UK. But I may be wrong about that.
