My grandson, 17 was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday because he was
behaving abnormally (had been for a couple of days) and his parents thought it
might be related to drugs.  He is still in the hospital and still having
symptoms of drug overdose.  They told his parents that he had a blood test and
everything was normal.

Today my daughter discovered that he never had a blood test because he refused
it.  The test results they had given her previously were for a different
patient.

If a 17-year-old is admitted to hospital because of those kinds of symptoms why
would they not tell the parents that he had refused the blood test.

In some states, minors can consent to medical treatment for drug
related problems without their parents' knowledge or consent, and
medical records pertaining to this treatment is confidential.
