Doctor who prescribed a job

I remember hearing a story, probably on NPR, about a doctor who, in effect,
prescribed a job for one of his patients. He didn't just write "a job" on
his prescription pad, it was more sophisticated than that. Unfortunately,
I don't remember any details. I'd like to read more about the story in order
to understand it better.

It sounds like the physcian thinks he's God.
A person needs to decide for oneself what job one does.
