Many people have what you describe. However, for anyone to know
whether YOURS are normal or not requires a medical history and
physical examination.

Would a photo help you to identify them?

Thar's a lot of anatomy under there! If in doubt, have your physician
or dentist check.
Here's a nice photo of the ventral surface of a very normal-looking tongue.

Interesting that this subject be brought up when I came here for
something else. I had been noticing that the underside of my tongue is
very "fringe-y." A couple of them became inflamed and tender, but it
went away. I was thinking of mentioning it to my MD when I returned
home and went to see him about my girl stuff.

Savvycat... The only reason I noticed mine is because one got inflamed
last week too and it scared me. I'm probably just being a
hypochondriac here and will ask my dentist next time I'm in but wanted
to know if it merited an earlier appointment.
Let me know what your MD says about it...

Will do, unless there are other answers coming here.
