I am going to have surgery on my nose next week and am terrified, I
wanted to ask if anyone ever had this done and what to expect when I
wake up?
I did ask the nurse on pre-assesment she just went on about how some
people bleed a lot when the packing is taken out which scared me more.
The surgeon said I can't do anything for 2 or 3 weeks after and that I
would not feel like going out anyway, I am not the sit still all day
type and it'll be hell.

Thankyou in advance,
Kaz  :o(

Had it done 23 years ago. I was under local anethesia and it was a
moderately unpleasant experience but still worth it. I was well
sedated. I was also extremely dehydrated by the time I got to the post
op. My nose was packed for a week which made sleeping difficult since I
needed water every hour or so. Pulling the packing out was a briefly
unpleasant experience but well worth it just a few seconds later..
Anyone with a strong composition should do ok with this procedure..
Best Wishes.

Thanks Ted, I did ask if I really needed packing and the surgeon said
as i'm having the septoplasty and trimming of turbinates yes! I broke
my nose about 15 months ago and apparently there is a boney spur lying
across which is the lump I can feel, also the bottom part of my nose is
over to the left instead of in the middle! The surgeon said it's
grossly deviated completely blocking one nostril.
In one way I want to get it over and done with but I am very scared of
how I will feel when I wake up, my packing will be taken out at 6am
next morning after surgery, quite soon compared to yours? Did u get
used to the feeling of it being in there?
I am having a general (wasn't offered a choice) that's scary enough on
it's own.
Were you in much pain after?

Thanks Again,
Karen  :o)

Yes, I got used to the packing and no there wasn't much pain
afterwards.

Hi Had my suregery, had problem with heart racing and was in recovery
for 3 hours.
Had quite a lot of bleeding when they took packs out and then kept
vomiting blood for hours after.
Had no bleeding or sickness since early yesterday morning, NOW I HAVE
STICKY BLOOD STAINED STUFF!  I am really worried, it started sticking
in my throat and I coughed it up now both nostrils full of it too!
I rang the hospital and they said don't worry unless it's bright red
fresh blood and it's pouring (it did after packing came out)
Anyone know how long this lasts, I could breathe through my nose
yesterday now it's full of gunk.
Should I take any anti-histamine tablets, like sinutab? I can't see how
i'm going to get any sleep,

Thanks,
Karen
