Hi, I would like to know if a person is emotionally stressed, will
gastric acid secretion be increased or will there be less bicarbonate
ions secreted?

Today, I discussed with my friends about whether emotional stress is a
risk factor of peptic ulcer. But it seems that it is Helicobacter
Pylori which contributes to nearly all cases non-NSAID induced
gastric/duodenal ulcer. During the discussion, one of my friends said
when a person is emotionally stressed, there will be less bicarbonate
ions secreted from parietal cells and thus the mucosal barrier in the
stomach is weakened. Is he correct?

No. Emotional stress plays little or no role in acid peptic disease.
