Here is a short story
I was hospitalized for a major sub-occlusion of my intestine due to my Crohn
disease which mean a complete blockage of my gastro-intestinal track, can't
ingest anything even water, you vomit it, and no peristaltic movement.
They have put me on solumedrol IV 40mg 4 times daily for 3 weeks, plus 4mg
dilaudid injection SC ( not IV or IM) for pain
Back home Now and I'm weaned off the dilaudid ( what a nightmare it was).
Now I'M back at home and I'm on 45 mg of prednisone daily. And I have to
take this dosage until the end of june.
I am back on a normal diet, but low fiber. No more pain so no need for pain
killer
Prednisone and me have a bad reaction on my nervous system; can sleep at
night, muscles spasm day and night and manic attack during the day and
restlessness and minor depression between manic attack. According to my
gastroenterologist it is normal symptom in some patient
I'm taking 45 mg of prednisone daily and my nervous system feel like he
is plugged on 220 volts all day and I have major insomnia at night and
slight depression effect ( prednisone and me don't mixes too well but I
have no choice) plus burst on anger
Doctor have prescribe me 2 mg rivotril (clonazepam) 3 times daily 1 to be
taken at night
with 30 mg of remeron (mirtazapine) to make me sleep at night, now at least
I can sleep at least 6 hours per night instead of 3, wow such an improvement
lol
But during the day 2mg of rivotril seems to have little to no effect on my
nervous system due to the amount or prednisone I am taking.
Here is my question, will 2 mg rivotril (clonazepam) and 2 mg of xanax will
help calm me down so I can function properly.
Is there other medicine I can take that can counteract the effect prednisone
have on my nervous system? Someone suggested me valium (unknown dosage) to
take with the rivotril that take care of my muscle spasm ( well only
partially)
I've read in a book on psychiatric pharmacology that corticosteroid (
prednisone) reduce the effect of benzodiazepine, could that be the problem,
need to take higher dosage ?
Right now my nervous system seems like a ticking bomb even on 2 mg rivotril
3 times a day
thank you in advance for any response

Your situation is complex.
All I'll suggest is a bit of research on DHEA has been
experimentally used in another disease that is treated with Prednisone
to reduce the adverse effects of Prednisone or similar glucocorticoid.
I am not saying this would be safe...........this is beyond
the scope of standard medical practice AFAIK.
What I said here is not advice nor is it
a suggestion of any medical action other than
talking to your Doc on a topic on which
you've read up..................JQ
